Carrollton school closures: what actually closed, and what might be next.
Five campuses serving Carrollton families have closed or consolidated since 2025, across two districts. Here's what happened, in order, with the dates and the district's own reasons.
CFBISD consolidated Central Elementary, Furneaux Elementary, McCoy Elementary, and Long Middle School starting in the 2025-26 school year. Lewisville ISD closed Polser Elementary in Carrollton at the same time. As of October 10, 2026, neither district has named another Carrollton campus to close. CFBISD is projecting a $24 million deficit for 2026-27, and consolidation is one of the ways it says it plans to save money, so this isn't over.
CFBISD: four campuses, one vote
On March 6, 2025, Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD trustees voted 6 to 1 to consolidate four schools:
- Central Elementary
- Furneaux Elementary
- McCoy Elementary
- Long Middle School
Students moved to their new campuses in fall 2025. The district said the change would save up to $9 million in the first year and remove more than 2,300 empty seats.
The reason was enrollment. In its planning work, the district found 23 of its 34 schools at or below 75% of capacity, about 9,800 empty seats in all. Attendance zones hadn't been reviewed in more than 20 years, so the consolidation came with new zone lines.
When the plan was presented in February 2025, the district floated possible next uses for the buildings: Furneaux as a possible pre-K center, McCoy as a possible land sale, and Central and Long as temporary classrooms while other campuses are under construction. Those were proposals at the time. Check with CFBISD for where each one stands now.
Lewisville ISD: Polser Elementary
On December 9, 2024, the Lewisville ISD board voted to close five elementary schools at the end of the 2024-25 school year. Four were outside Carrollton: B.B. Owen, Creekside, Garden Ridge, and Highland Village. The fifth was Polser Elementary, at 1520 Polser Road in Carrollton.
LISD has kept going. In November 2025 the board voted to repurpose Mill Street Elementary as an early childhood center starting in 2026-27. Mill Street is in Lewisville, not Carrollton, but it shows the district is still adjusting.
What's next for CFBISD
CFBISD projects a $24 million budget deficit for 2026-27 and says it aims to save more than $14 million. The district lists campus consolidations alongside centralized services and overtime limits as ways to get there. On August 20, the board adopted the 2026-27 budget and kept the tax rate where it was. That budget covers only ten months, because the district is moving its fiscal year from a September start to a July start.
What the district has not done, as of this writing, is name specific campuses for a second round. If that happens, it should show up first in board presentations and a posted agenda, well before a vote. That's how the 2025 consolidation played out: the recommendation was presented February 6, and the vote came a month later.
We'll update this page when CFBISD or Lewisville ISD posts a recommendation or takes a vote involving a Carrollton campus. The date at the top shows when it was last checked.
If your child changed schools
A new campus means new routines, and for some kids a longer ride. A few things worth handling early:
- Update the school nurse. If your child is in braces or an expander, the nurse should know, along with your orthodontist's phone number.
- Check the new bell schedule before booking the next adjustment, since a new campus can mean a different release time.
- Re-pick your office if you need to. If the new school sits closer to a different Elate office, you can switch. Same doctors, same records.

Where to watch
Board agendas and presentations are posted on each district's website: cfbisd.edu and lisd.net. Community Impact and the Carrollton Leader cover both boards regularly. Word of mouth tends to run ahead of the agendas, and sometimes it gets the school wrong, so the agenda is worth checking before you plan around a rumor.
