What the free orthodontic consultation actually involves.
Some parents put off the first visit because they expect a sales pitch. Here's what happens at Elate, in order, so you can decide whether it's worth an afternoon.
It's free and takes up to about an hour. You get digital scans and photos, an exam with Dr. Baharvand or Dr. Kang, the treatment options that actually fit, and the exact price with your insurance worked out. If the honest answer is "nothing yet," that's what you'll hear. Visits can be in English or Korean.
Step by step
- Check-in. A few questions about what's bothering you, or what your dentist noticed.
- Scans and photos. A digital scanner instead of impression trays. Most kids don't mind it.
- The exam. One of the two orthodontists looks at the bite, the jaws, and how the teeth are coming in, and explains it without the jargon.
- Options. Braces, clear braces, aligners, an expander, or waiting. Whatever applies to this mouth.
- The number. The full fee, what insurance should cover, and payment options, including in-house plans with no interest.

Bring these
- Your insurance card, so orthodontic benefits can be checked on the spot.
- A parent or guardian, for anyone under 18.
- Any records or written quote from another office. Records from Korea are fine; Dr. Kang reads Korean.
- Your list of questions. Write them down before you come.
Second opinions are welcome
If another office recommended treatment and you're not sure about it, bring the plan. Sometimes the second opinion agrees and you can stop wondering. Sometimes the approach is different, and it's better to understand why before signing anything.
Three questions worth asking at any consultation, including ours: What's the actual problem? What happens if we wait? What does the fee include? If you get clear answers to all three, that's a good sign.
Elate sometimes offers same-day start pricing. It's optional. Going home to think it over is completely normal.
