Why one city has five districts
Carrollton sits where Dallas, Denton, and Collin counties meet. Roughly, the south end is in Dallas County, the north end (around Frankford Road and up) is in Denton County, and a small slice on the east side is in Collin County. School district lines in Texas don't follow city limits, so they followed their own history instead.
The practical result: two houses a few streets apart can feed into different high schools, different calendars, and different bell schedules. If you're buying or renting, check the address before you fall in love with the school.

Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD in 2026-27
CFBISD started the 2026-27 school year on August 11, 2026, and the last day is May 21, 2027. Trustees approved that calendar on January 8, 2026.
It's also a district under real budget pressure. In March 2025 trustees consolidated four campuses: Central, Furneaux, and McCoy elementaries and Long Middle School. For 2026-27 the district projects a $24 million deficit and is aiming for more than $14 million in savings, with campus consolidations on the list of options. Lewisville ISD on the north side
If you live around Hebron Parkway, there's a good chance your kids are Hebron Hawks. Hebron High School is at 4207 Plano Parkway, and its middle school feeders are Arbor Creek and Creek Valley in Carrollton plus Killian in Lewisville.

Hebron and Josey area
Elate's office in The Colony is about 4 miles north, up Josey Lane to Highway 121. Many families go after school.
Belt Line and Downtown area
Closer to 8 miles. Josey Lane runs straight north to the office, so the route is simple even if the drive is longer.
A rezoned child
If a consolidation moved your child to a new campus, nothing changes with treatment. If the new drive is awkward, you can switch Elate offices.

How to check your district
- Use the district's address lookup, not a real estate listing. Listings are often out of date, especially after rezoning.
- Check after any consolidation vote. CFBISD redrew attendance zones in 2025 for the first time in over 20 years.
- Call the campus if your address sits near a boundary. The registrar has the final word.
